Mrs. Heather Gossart Receives National Catholic Educational Association Award
Congratulations to Mrs. Heather Gossart, President and CEO of Bishop McNamara High School, who has been chosen to receive a special departmental award by the National Catholic Educational Association. Only 4 such awards are presented nationally each year.
Mrs. Gossart is being recognized for her many years of distinguished service to Catholic education and NCEA. She will receive her award at the NCEA National Convention, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia in April, 2006.
For 36 years, Mrs. Gossart has served in Catholic education as a teacher, department head, counselor, and administrator. Mrs. Gossart was appointed President and CEO of Bishop McNamara High School in 1996 and is the first lay person and first woman to serve in this capacity at a high school sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross.
Among her many accomplishments, Mrs. Gossart has developed Project PRIDE, an inclusion program for at-risk students; created "Up, Up and Away", a financial aid and high school admissions workshop for parents; travels the country as a speaker and consultant on the President/Principal model of high school leadership and the roll of the President in congregationally sponsored schools; and has worked with many religious congregations throughout the country addressing the issue of lay leadership succession and the empowerment of the laity in Catholic education.
Mrs. Gossart has served as a five term President of the Archdiocesan President's Association, was the recipient of the 1995 Archdiocese of Washington Outstanding Principal award and the 1999 Prince George's County Outstanding High School Administrator Award, is listed in Who's Who Among American Educators and Who's Who in American Executives and Professionals, and serves as a speaker for the Archdioceses of Washington for new teacher orientation.
