Teens in Action Win Second Grant Competition posted June 4, 2007
They did it again. The Teens in Action have won another round of the Project Ignition Competition from State Farm. They have enhanced their project to include bilingual and American Sign Language Components. Join Teens in Action and you can be part of the Action. Annual Food Drive posted November 28, 2006
The Annual Food Drive reached its goal of 6 tons of food! A big thank you to all those who brought in food. Organizations benefiting from this year's drive are Mt. Calvary Ladies of Charity, Bethel House, Inc., S.O.M.E. and the Oxon Hill Food Pantry.
Annual Catapult Competition posted December 8, 2006
The 4th Annual Physics Catapult Competition was held on the new athletic field on Wednesday, December 6. Winning the competition with a tennis ball launch of 30.4 meters (99.7 feet) was the team of Jessica Collins and Jasmine Wedge. Congratulations to all the physics students for a job well done!

Teens in Action advance to Semi-Finals in Driving Safety Competition posted June 13, 2006
The Teens in Action advanced to the semi-finals in the State Farm Insurance Project Ignition Teen Driving Safety Competition and won a $2000 grant. They need help from Parents and Students to win the $10,000 grand prize.

Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Registry on Saturday, May 6 posted April 27, 2006
On Saturday, May 6th, Bishop McNamara will be the site of a Red Cross Blood Drive from 9 am until 2 pm. McNamara has a history of successful Blood Drives, and we are certainly hoping this will continue to be the case. Presidental Service Awards posted March 3, 2006
Presidential Volunteer Service Awards are prestigous awards that can be used to document Volunteer service for students and adults. These awards can be used on college applications, job applications, and for scholarship awards. Any student age 14 who has completed 75 service hours or over age 15 who has completed 100 hours is eligible to earn a Presidential Volunteer Service Award. The hours that are eligible for this award can be any service that an individual does anywhere. This year's award period is May 1, 2005, to April 30, 2006. To register to recieve the award, send an email to Mrs. Pezzuto at CampFirePatuxent@aol.com. Awards are ordered on May 1 of each year.

Bishop McNamara Welcomes Displaced Students After Hurricane
Everyday we see and hear more concerning the devastation left behind by the recent hurricane that shattered the lives of many Americans. The realities of Hurricane Katrina are closer than ever as we begin to welcome displaced students from New Orleans and the Gulf Coast into our school. We are a community of compassion and generosity committed to living out the mission of the Holy Cross community and so we welcome these students with open arms.
Bishop McNamara has established a restricted fund for the educational needs and related services for these displaced students. If you would like to contribute to this fund, please call our Development Office at 301-735-8401 x39 or x22 or send a check to Bishop McNamara High School and write Hurricane Assistance in the memo line. Your continued support and generosity is greatly appreciated.

Iman McFarland '05 named Washington Post's Michael Trilling Award Recipient
Congratulations to Iman McFarland '05, who has been named the winner of the Washington Post's Michael Trilling Award. This award, named for a former editor of the Post, recognizes a student/athlete who has excelled in the classroom and on the field of athletic competition while also having a record of community service and high character!
Alysha Davis '06 Named Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to Alysha Davis '06 who has been named the Washington Examiner girl student athlete of the week (Friday May 6, 2005). Alysha maintains a 3.2 gpa and runs the 100, 200, and 400 meters races with the Mustang Track team.
Phil Terry Memorial Golf Tournament
The 20th Annual Phil Terry Memorial Golf Tournament took place on April 29 on the Courses at Andrews Air Force Base. Once again sponsored by teetimes.com, a subsidiary of Software Performance Systems, Greg Dorsett ’80 President, the event was our largest golf outing ever and raised more than $16,000 for our school’s scholarship fund.
2005 Hall of Fame Dinner
The Bishop McNamara Hall Of Fame grew by four members on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the Eighth Annual Dinner and Induction Ceremony.
Bishop McNamara Dance Program
Since its inception in 1997, the Bishop McNamara dance program has been preparing our student dancers to go out beyond the walls of our school to make their mark in the world of entertainment. And over the years graduates from our school have found themselves on stages in Washington, New York, Philadelphia, and all across the country. This year's dancers are no exception.

McNamara senior Iman McFarland has been named the 2005 Gatorade Maryland Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Pi Decorating Contest
In celebration of Pi Day and Albert Einstein's birthday, students in the math classes took part in a pi decorating contest. Awards were given for the three winning decorations.
For the Love of Jazz
On Sunday, February 13, 2005 the Bishop McNamara Jazz Ensemble, joined by renowned musician Chris Vadala and under the direction of Mr. Anthony Conto, presented an evening of music, dining and dance at the Andrews Air Force Base Golf Course Clubhouse.
McNamara's Iman McFarland Selected to Nike All-America Team
Iman McFarland is one of 20 high school seniors selected to participate in the 2005 WBCA High School All-America Game.
Moreau Society Sponsors Spelling Bee
Students from private elementary schools across the Archdiocese of Washington gathered on January 12, 2005 in the theater of the Fine Arts building to participate in Bishop McNamara's second annual Invitational Spelling Bee. The first place winners were awarded with a plaque and $50 award for their school. Alani Mason-Callaway, first place winner in the Junior High division, will go on to the Prince George's County Spelling Bee, sponsored by the P.G. Journal. Members of the Moreau Scholar Society assisted in hosting the event.
Astronaut Visits Bishop McNamara
On January 11, Bishop McNamara High School welcomed Astronaut Pamela A. Melroy (Colonel, USAF). Read the article about the visit written by student Joseph Chapman '06.
Annual Food Drive
After seven days of collecting food, the 2004 Food Drive ended on December 10 with over 10,500 lbs. of food donated to help the needy in our local area. Thanks to the efforts of the entire school community, the drive was an overwhelming success, meeting and surpassing our goal of 5 tons. Special recognition goes to the Class of '06 whose donations averaged over 15 cans of food per student.
Open House
Bishop McNamara's Open House on November 21, 2004, was a resounding success. Over 1300 prospective students and parents learned more about the spirit of community, family, and academic success that permeates the halls of our school. Performances of the Jazz Ensemble as well as interactive Science labs were among the highlights of the day. Thanks to all the current Bishop McNamara parents, students and faculty members who welcomed our guests!
Physics Catapult Competition
The physics classes held a catapult competition on Monday, November 22, 2004. There were 61 participants and 33 different catapults competing to throw a tennis ball the farthest. The winning team of Sean Ashby and Joseph Michellizzi launched the ball 25.95 meters (about 85 feet). See photos and results of the competition.
Moreau Scholar Society Induction
The Moreau Scholar Society recently had its annual induction of new Moreau scholars. Nine students from throughout the Washington area were inducted by Bishop McNamara president Mrs. Heather Gossart and principal Marco Clark. Mr. Matthew Buckley '98, a Moreau scholar himself and now instructor in the McNamara English Department, was the featured speaker. After the ceremony at the Fine Arts and Athletic Center the group gathered for a small reception.
