Applications Process

For Students Enrolled in Catholic Elementary Schools in the Archdiocese of Washington
  • In early December, every student seeking admission to a Catholic high school must notify his or her elementary school of the two high schools the student has selected to receive High School Placement Test (HSPT) scores, copies of the student's records, and the Catholic High School Student Information Form.
  • The Catholic elementary schools administer the High School Placement Test as the official entrance test. The test is given in December, and each student’s test results are forwarded to both of the high schools selected by the student.
  • Students must submit a completed BMHS application for admission and associated fees by the 2nd Friday in January. Applications may be obtained at the Open House in the fall, by calling the Admissions Office at (301) 735-8401 ext.113, 260, or by downloading from the website. Applications may not be processed until the Records Release Form has been completed.

For Elementary Students NOT Enrolled in Catholic Elementary Schools in the Archdiocese of Washington

  • Students are required to take the Washington Archdiocesan Admissions Test (the HSPT). Applicants may register for this test with the Catholic Schools Office at www.adw.org/education or obtain further information by telephoning the Catholic Schools Office at (301) 853-4587.The test is offered twice during the winter, usually in December. Register early to obtain your desired test date/location.
  • Students must submit a completed BMHS application for admission and associated fees by the 2nd Friday in January.
  • Students must arrange to have the following received by the Admissions Office by the last business day in January:
    1. Your academic transcript for the 7th and 8th grade.
    2. The Records Release Form (downloaded from the website).
    3. Two completed evaluations from your current classroom teachers and/or a counselor. The Teacher Evaluation Form may be downloaded from the website.

Transfer Applicants

  • Transfer applicants should submit a completed application by the 2nd Friday in March.
  • Ninth graders applying for the tenth grade must take the High School Placement Test. Applicants may register for this test with the Catholic Schools Office at www.adw.org/education or obtain further information by telephoning the Catholic Schools Office at (301) 853-4587.
  • Transfer students must arrange to have the following received by the Admissions Office by the last business in March:
    1. Academic transcripts for all of your high school work and your 8th grade transcript if you are applying for the 10th grade. The Records Release Form may be downloaded from the website as well
    2. Two completed evaluations from your current classroom teachers and/or a counselor (use the Teacher Evaluation Form from the website).

Notification of Acceptance

Upon receipt of an applicant’s test scores, transcripts, application, teacher evaluations and application fee, the Admissions Committee will review a student’s credentials for admission. First notifications of acceptance are mailed in the last week of February. Notifications will be sent to transfer students on a rolling basis, based on availability.

Please keep in mindthat applications received after the deadlines lower the student’s chance of admission
