About Us
Bishop McNamara High School is a private, Catholic coeducational high
school offering its students a challenging college preparatory curriculum
and a complete range of athletics and activities. Founded in 1964 as
an all male high school, Bishop McNamara accepted females for the first
time in 1992. Sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross, this Catholic
school seeks the development of the whole person. Thus, the academically
rigorous program is combined with athletic, artistic, religious and
social activities to offer young men and women a well-rounded pathway
to success.
Mission Statement
Bishop McNamara High School, a college preparatory school in the Holy Cross tradition, exists to educate and to form young men and women in the Catholic faith. The school challenges its students to think with Christ: a thought animated by the gospel, manifested in service, and informed by academic excellence.
The McNamara Philosophy
Bishop McNamara High School, as a school in the Holy Cross Tradition,
exists primarily to educate in the Faith. By its commitment to instruction
in the Catholic faith in the person of Jesus, in appropriate spiritual
and moral guidance, and in preparation for service to others, the school
provides its students an opportunity to participate in the practice
of the faith in an atmosphere supportive of religious values.
School History
This faith message is not taught in isolation but is integrated
with the rest of learning and by relating the Gospel message to content
areas and by living example of faculty and staff. The school's mission
is the establishment of a community of students, families, and faculty
which provides quality education that leads to a conscious and ongoing
relationship with the person of Jesus Christ.
In September 1992, following the closing of neighboring, all-girls
LaReine High School, McNamara became a co-educational institution dedicated
to preparing both young women and men for the challenges of the 21st
century. While expanding the academic, cultural and athletic activities
to include all students, many traditions of the two schools were also
retained to provide continuity for current students and alumni/ae.
In keeping with the McNamara-LaReine legacy of academic excellence,
the graduating class of 1999 achieved a 98% college acceptance rate
to colleges and universities nation-wide. The graduates earned over
$5 million in scholarships, financial aid and grants.
While McNamara is rich in many traditions, both old and new, it counts
as its greatest resource the sustaining support of its graduates, families,
faculty and friends. McNamara continues to prove that a strong viable
faith community can only come from the willing hearts and hands of our
many supporters.
Alma Mater
Hail to thee, our McNamara True Maroon and Gold.
What we have in McNamara, never will grow old.
Brotherhood and sisterhood in Christian unity,
Mustangs once, we'll always be. We sing our love to thee.
Hail to thee, our McNamara: Strong, and Proud, and Free.
What we share in McNamara is peace and loyalty.
Education, celebration of Christ's glory:
We sing our love to thee.
Maroon and Gold Fight Song
The fight song was composed by Brother Robert Antonetti, the first band
director
at Bishop McNamara.
Maroon and Gold go charging through,
Fight on you Mustangs brave and true,
We conquer all, We never fall,
We always fight for one and all.
For victory we'll rise our cry,
Our spirits strong will never die,
Go marching on, to victory,
For McNamara High!
